Pro-ACT Training

Pathway to Choices adheres to the principles of Pro-ACT. Pro-ACT, which stands for Professional Assault Crisis Training, is a workshop for professionals who work with individuals who present challenging behaviors. Doctor Paul Smith developed the first workshop while working at Camarillo State Hospital. He then rewrote it in 1976 as Management of Assaulted Behavior, placing more emphasis on the verbal crisis intervention methods. In 1982, Doctor Smith rewrote it again and titled it Professional Assault Response Training (PART). It emphasized on self-control, assessment skills, and verbal crisis intervention.

Pro-ACT is a risk management and safety-enhancement program, not a treatment program. Pro-ACT Training enhances personal safety within the context of individual rights.*
